BBQ in London Thanks Kate

Here we sit like birds in the wilderness...Just joking  quite nice little family gorup big one to follow in Italy in 10 days time..

.We flew to Rome on Monday and met with Aunty Meg....yay lovely S.I.L 'we look quite serious discussing the trip to Pompei for the next day.....Nice hotel 'wonderful to have Jo and the kiddies join us the next day for this long awaited journey to see Pompei...Uncle Trev travelled with us in spirit.

On our way to Pompei in the air conditioned vehicle (thank goodness for air'con...it was sooooo hot!)

So we meet our Guide Hector ' he was very knowledgeable and we learnt so much about it all from him......

Our Italian born grand kids  Thanks Aunty Meg for the Aussie hats.....Jo looking very Italian and fabulous at nearly 40 !!!!(Unbiased opinion...of course!)
Look at all those Streets that have been recovered '   I had trouble reconciling this with the small excavation in the encyclopaedia all those years ago..what a lot more has been recovered in 50 years...

Hector explaining we were on Main Street..Imagine all the people busy and bustling down the street and see the big stepping stones for people to cross the road as it would have been dirty with animal droppings etc....
MInd'boggling isn't it???
Some of the art work 'made with thousands of small mosaic tiles...fantastic...

One of the slaves ' the ash had preserved the shape of the people and then they have been filled with plaster ' AMAZING...Not sure how Emily took all this 'she has asked a lot of questions since the day out.

It was amazing to see the art work preserved on the walls. and some of this art work was very tree'd 'altho we thought 3 'd art work only appeared much later 'it seems we were wrong.!!

After Pompei we went to the Amalfi coast to a wonderful restaurant by the sea for lunch...Yum!!!

Yes it was on a marina 'lots of boats for Captain Ken (shame he was not with us!! ) They are currently on Jersey Island,

Back in San Michele ' Grandad and Liam playing Hot wheels racing together......A lovely holiday progresses  keep watching for the next episode.......
